The beginning is a good place to start and to do that, I think I must go back a couple generations in my family. Baking has held a special reverence in my family. I immediately think of my mom and my grandma Beule. My mother has been baking amazing pies since I can remember. As a child, I would watch with wonder as she made the most delicious pies! And they looked beautiful. I still chuckle when I hear her say "making pies is as simple as 1, 2, 3." She means every word because for her, it is and she can basically make one in her sleep! Maybe some of her talent came from her mother, my Grandma Beule. Grandma was able to whip up a loaf of homemade wheat bread as if it were easier than going to the store to buy one. Oh, how I loved the smells and sights in those kitchens!
That, I would guess, is when my love for baking must have begun. Though long gone are those days, I have to say that my love for this age old art has blossomed and I have Mom and Grandma to thank for that. |
Whether it's the comfort and satisfaction that comes from making a tried and true favorite, or the excitement of experimenting with a new recipe, I love it! And here's the thing, I really love sharing what I bake. Have you ever seen the look on someone's face when given something as simple as a cookie? How do you feel when presented with your birthday cake or pie? It's awesome! (By the way, if that's never happened to you, call me now!)
Another desire has been rattling around in my head with nowhere to go until now. One way to describe this is a need to find some way to spread more peace in this world, in my community. We have all been touched by a conversation, experience, or a story we've heard that leaves us wishing to "do something more". Lots of questions have emerged for me with no answer until now. The answer became clear when I realized that many people kept telling me to start a baking business. That didn't seem like anything I was interested in until I realized I might be able to combine it with this need to touch others by donating proceeds of my baked products to different nonprofit organizations promoting peace in one way or another. That was it! Two things, coming together into a small business which I hope will succeed in making some part of our world a better place.
So, my creations aren't perfect. That's ok because PEACE IS THE PURPOSE! They are delicious, however, and customized just for you. Help me make a difference. I know that together, we can create more peace and love right here in our community. That's what matters. Let's get to it and make your pastries/cakes/breads make a difference!
